Finally settled from our road trip and we are finishing up the lingering tasks that restore everything into familiar order. There were SO many beautiful places, people and experiences that have filled my creative cup. I'm feeling the urge to share some of our trip and hence the inspiration for a planned Road Trip 22 collection that is swirling around in my minds eye.
I am compelled to begin with how excited we were to be road tripping with our new-used teardrop trailer. We purchased it from Roger, who did his best to contain his sadness at having to sell (he was moving overseas). He described it as "a camper for those who love to tent camp", and I would agree.
It would be an understatement to say that John and I love tent camping - we've even built a tent platform in the backyard and sleep in our tent during the summer (we love our Kodiak tent). The camper is essentially a bed on wheels with a kitchen in the back. A small vent fan noticeably pulls air through the screen windows and it does feel like a small dome tent with nice air movement.
We had a few challenges during this first long trip. For instance, we hadn't quite figured out how to use the solar panel to charge the battery, but also found the battery wasn't holding a charge and bought new one. We also learned that we don't need as much stuff as we thought.
Paring things down would make the set-up and teardown even more efficient - and that is the greatest part. Pulling into a site is easy and we can have camp ready to go in less than 15 minutes. Packing up, including hitching back up, is a tad longer but just as easy. This is why we decided that a camper was going to be a better choice for a road trip where stops may be for as little as 1 night.
We give road tripping with our teardrop trailer an A+, despite the challenges and are looking forward to the next!
